Description

Transparent colorless. Nonpleochroic. Extreme birefringence. Distinguished by small (~10 um) acicular (needle-like) or rice-like grain morphology. Moderate relief, varying by direction. Twinning may be common.

Organisms such as pteropods, most mollusks, and some corals produce biogenic aragonite.
